England vs Pakistan: Jofra Archer makes the cut for the ODI series
He wasn't included in the T20I squad though.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has recently announced the squads for the T20I and ODI series against Pakistan. Even as the one-off T20I takes place on Sunday, May 5 at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff, the 50-overs fixtures start on Wednesday, May 8 with the opening match at the Kennington Oval in London. Southampton, Bristol, Nottingham and Leeds are the venues for the remaining for ODIs.
As far as the squad selection is concerned, Barbados-born fast bowler, Jofra Archer has been included in the 17-member ODI series and it clearly indicates that he is in the plans for the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales, though he isn’t in the initial squad. Earlier, limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan also made it clear that Archer would be tested out in the series prior to the mega event.
Earlier, Archer had to wait until 2022 winters before being eligible to play for England as he moved to the country after turning 18. However, the residency requirements were slashed to three years and it meant that he would be eligible in early 2019. He would now want to perform for the Three Lions.
The Brits’ last series was against the Windies where they drew the ODI series 2-2 and whitewashed the hosts 3-0 in the T20I fixtures. England would play the World Cup opener against South Africa at the Kennington Oval in London on Thursday, May 30.
