England vs Pakistan: Man proposes to partner on-camera during final T20I in Manchester
All this unfolded during Pakistan’s innings when Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman were batting.
England and Pakistan fought out in Manchester in the final T20I of the three-match series, which hosts England ended up winning 2-1. While the two teams pushed hard to seal the decider and subsequently the fate of the series, in a heart-warming spectacle at the venue, two spectators decided their own fate as a man proposed to her partner.
All this unfolded during Pakistan’s innings when Mohammad Rizwan and Fakhar Zaman were batting, and just as the 9th over came to close, the camera captured a couple that left each one smiling. Commentator David Lloyd enjoyed the fun as he frantically narrated the live moment. Interestingly, the broadcasters came along too, as the big screen immediately flashed “DECISION PENDING” before soon updating to “SHE SAID YES!”.
“What’s happening here? Oh hello? Oh! not another! not another! Big screen as well. Jill and Phil, Jill and Phil, decision pending. She said yes,” the commentator spoke enthusiastically. “22,000 people come to watch someone propose!” his fellow partner in the box added.
Lloyd identified the man and woman in the scene as Jill and Phill and further revealed a backstory. “There’s a great backstory to it, they’re a great couple. They’ve been cooking for the NHS and the emergency services.” The couple warmly embraced each other in front of the 22000-strong Manchester crowd, while the lady could not hold back her tears as the camera focused back to live action.
England wins the series 2-1
As for the final encounter, Pakistan had set a 155-run target for England on the back of a 57-ball 76 from Mohammad Rizwan. Having opted to bat first, the visitors were castled by Adil Rashid, who claimed 4/35 from his four overs and ensured Pakistan could not notch up any dominating partnership.
During the chase, England teed off thanks to Jason Roy’s aggressive assault, but Pakistan spinners meted out similar treatment to England, bagging wickets regularly in the middle overs to take things down to the wire. England lost two crucial wickets, those of Dawid Malan and Liam Livingstone, in the penultimate over bowled by Mohammad Hafeez, while Eoin Morgan was dismissed in the final over, however, Chris Jordan hung on and scored the final runs to secure a three-wicket win.
