England vs Pakistan: Mickey Arthur clueless on how to stop Bombastic Buttler
The 28-year-old bagged the Player of the Match for his stupendous knock.
Jos Buttler doesn’t have the word ‘mercy’ in his dictionary, definitely not when he’s plying his trade on the cricket pitch. A glimpse of the ‘ruthlessness’ was seen yesterday at the Rose Bowl in Southampton when England played the second ODI against Pakistan. Buttler threw the kitchen sink at everything and racked up 110 runs off 55 deliveries with six fours and as many nine monstrous sixes.
The 28-year-old came to bat after Joe Root’s dismissal with the score at 211/3. Thereafter, Buttler wreaked havoc and kept dismissing everything that was hurled at him by the Pakistan bowlers. He shared an unbeaten stand of 162 runs with the English captain Eoin Morgan.
Buttler was arguably the more dominant partner in the stand as Morgan could only manage 71 off 48 balls. The skipper turned out to be a perfect foil for the devastating Buttler and the onslaught took the hosts to a formidable score of 373 for the loss of three wickets in 50 overs.
In the meantime, Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur admitted that he strained to find a method in order to stop the Buttler blitzkrieg. He also understands the importance of getting the Somerset-born Jos out cheaply as he can do ‘serious damage’ if he gets his eye in.
“Oh, I don’t know, I’ve just asked the bowlers actually. They didn’t give me an answer either. We’ll sit down and analyse that and try to work out a plan. I don’t think we’re going to stop him, we’ve got to find a way to get him out. The longer he bats he’s going to do some serious damage,” Arthur said after the encounter where Pakistan lost by 12 runs.
Words of praise for Morgan

Meanwhile, Buttler also drew praises from his captain. “He’s very good. He really is. I was in prime position to see the whole innings and his freakish knocks seem to be getting closer and closer together, so that’s a good sign for us moving forward,” Morgan mentioned.
“But he seems to have a gear that not many of us have. I certainly don’t have it, but it’s great to watch. He always seems to time his run really well, regardless of what time he comes in, he always seems to have enough balls to go on and bang a 50-ball hundred,” he added.
