Sri Lanka’s cricket is seriously going through tough times in terms of performances on the field and the recent incident in England hasn’t helped at all. The cricketers Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella are understood to have breached the bio-bubble after a video emerged on social media which shows both of them in public place. The investigation regarding the matter is currently in progress.
The team from island nation is currently in the UK to play three T20Is and as many ODIs. The visitors were blanked in the T20I series as they didn’t even put up a fight against the full-strength England side. The first of the three-match ODI series is set to be played on June 29.
Meanwhile, according to ESPNCricinfo, Sri Lanka‘s team manager Manuja Kariyapperuma has confirmed that the team management is investigating the breach. The team is currently in Durham and the place in which Kusal Mendis and Dickwella have been captured doesn’t appear to be in the vicinity of the hotel. However, Manuja stated if the cricketers actually breached the bubble is not yet confirmed.
In the video that has gone viral on Twitter, clearly shows both the cricketers having fun while being out of the bubble and also being aware if somebody is keeping an eye on them.
Here’s the video:
Familiar faces in Durham tonight, enjoying their tour! Obviously not here to play cricket, this video was taken at 23.28 Sunday. Disappointing performance by these cricket players but not forgetting to enjoy their night at Durham. RIP #SrilankaCricket #KusalMendis #ENGvSL pic.twitter.com/eR15CWHMQx

Kusal and Dickwella likely to be isolated
If it is indeed found that the two cricketers actually breached the protocols of the bubble, then they will be isolated away from the team for a few days. This automatically rules them out of the first two ODIs at least. Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) might also impose harsh penalties on the duo for the same. As far as the performance on the field is concerned, both the players didn’t have a good time.
Kusal Mendis scored only 54 runs in three matches with the best score of 39 runs at a poor strike-rate of 98.18 while Dickwella played in two T20Is only mustering only 14 runs and he wasn’t great behind the stumps either. The team is already being criticised for its poor show and the latest incident has clearly raised questions on their behaviour as well.
