The cricketing fraternity woke up to hear a heartening news that the Indian captain Virat Kohli is reportedly suffering from a slipped disc (herniated disc) problem which was diagnosed by one of the top orthopaedic surgeons in the country. The dismal reported also gave rise to the speculations that Kohli will most likely have to miss a few games for his county side, Surrey, during his upcoming debut county stint.
However, the BCCI recently confirmed that the Indian skipper will not be available for his debut county season for Surrey due to his recent injury. England Women’s cricketer Alex Hartley wished the Indian cricketer to have a speedy recovery. Kohli decided to sign a county deal with Surrey in order to improve his Test record in the country and also to prepare well for the upcoming challenging tour to England starting in July, where team India will be playing 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs and a five-Test match series.
The premier Indian batsman was expected to play three List A and three first-class matches for Surrey during the next month in June in the ongoing English County Championship. BCCI also mentioned in its statement that the management will be taking the final call on Kohli’s future availability for the upcoming international series after the fitness test scheduled on June 15.
Did Kohli concede the injury during the IPL?
Virat was recently captaining the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The RCB skipper sustained a neck injury during the encounter against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 17 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Virat’s recently aggregated injury has also raised serious speculations about his availability for the Ireland T20Is and more importantly for the later tour to England.
Might have got that neck injury from leading RCB in IPL: Hartley
Hartley took the disheartening news on a lighter note by saying that Kohli may have sustained the injury while carrying the heavy load of his franchise in the IPL 2018. She also wished him to get well from his injury at the earliest.
