England Women announced their squad for the tour of India where they will be playing a Twenty20 tri-series later this month. 26-year-old all-rounder Danielle Wyatt has been included in the team that will be led by Heather Knight. In her last T20 outing against the Aussies in the Ashes, she created history scoring the first century in the format by an England Women’s cricketer.

The third team involved in the tournament is Australia. Following the T20Is they will take on the hosts India in a three-match ODI series. England will start their campaign in the tri-series against Australia on March 23 and play the first ODI on April 6 in Nagpur.

Among the major names that miss out from the squad are seam bowler Katherine Brunt who is out with an injury and wicketkeeper Sarah Taylor who has been rested. English coach Mark Robinson wants to use this opportunity to try the new faces as they have some time in hand before they host to New Zealand and South Africa. The tour will be followed by the World T20 2018 in West Indies.

“We’ve said for a long time that we need to play more games and it’s exciting that we’ve been able to arrange this very competitive series outside of the ICC Women’s Championship,” said Robinson as quoted by stokesentinel.co.uk. “It gives us a chance to see other players and measure their progress and that also means we can rest and rotate,” he added.

“In Sarah’s case, she’s been doing really well and we always targeted this period as one where she can focus on her well-being in preparation for what will be a busy summer leading into the ICC World T20.

“It’s very exciting to have three new faces in the group – and to welcome back a few others. Obviously that means a few have missed out but they can use the time to their advantage and come back more strongly,” Robinson stated.

England squad:

Heather Knight (C, Berkshire), Tammy Beaumont (Kent), Kate Cross (Lancashire), Alice Davidson-Richards (Kent), Sophie Ecclestone (Lancashire), Tash Farrant (Kent), Katie George (Hampshire), Jenny Gunn (Warwickshire), Alex Hartley (Lancashire), Danielle Hazell (Yorkshire), Amy Jones (Warwickshire), Nat Sciver (Surrey), Anya Shrubsole (Somerset), Bryony Smith (Surrey), Fran Wilson (Middlesex), Danni Wyatt (Sussex).
