English batsman Ian Bell hasn't yet given up on his hopes of making a Test comeback
Bell also has had an outstanding stint for Birmingham Bears in the ongoing T20 Blast.
Ian Bell, the right-handed batsman hasn’t played Test cricket for England ever since the Brits’ series against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) back in 2015. However, despite being out of the selectors’ radar for almost three years, Bell hasn’t dropped the gun just yet and put forth his aspirations of making a comeback in the longest format of the sport.
England hasn’t been outstanding in the format in the last one year and their middle order has been found wanting on quite a few occasions. Bell has been in superlative form this season. He has played eight matches in the County Championship for Warwickshire and racked up 665 runs at a significant average of 55.41. Moreover, he also notched three centuries and a couple of half-centuries.
I just still want to be winning games of cricket
His inclusion in the awry-looking English middle-order can’t completely be ruled out. “The questions have started to come a little bit more now, with the form I’ve had through the season and obviously England’s middle order. If you asked me that question now I would definitely want to play again.
If you’d asked me that 12 months ago, it would have been a different answer. Whether it is with Warwickshire, Birmingham Bears or England, I just still want to be winning games of cricket,” Bell was quoted as saying in BBC Sport.
Bell also has had an outstanding stint for Birmingham Bears in the ongoing T20 Blast. The Warwickshire-born cricketer has piled 471 runs in ten matches at an average of 58.87. His top score of 131 in 62 balls came against Northants Steelbacks and the knock helped his team tie the match while chasing 232 runs.
Apart from that, he also has mustered three fifties in the tournament. The 36-year-old has played 118 Tests in which he has scored 7727 runs at an average of 42.69. He also boasts of 22 centuries and 46 fifties at the highest level.
