English physio gets injured after getting hit by a shot from Ben Stokes
This isn't the first time an incident of this sort has taken place in the English camp.
During a practice session, England’s physio Craig de Weymarn hurt himself real bad. In a throw-down session with English all rounder Ben Stokes, one of the shots by the English cricketer hit him on the face. He was immediately taken to the hospital where it was revealed he broke his jaw. The physio was admitted and even underwent surgery for the same.
This isn’t the first time an incident of this sort has taken place in the English camp. Earlier this year, the media manager of the England side Danny Reuben also got hurt in his eye after being hit by a ball. He too had to undergo a surgery for the same. The English support staff would try to be extra cautious from now on it seems.
There have been so many incidents around the world where cricketers have been injured during practice sessions. In fact there have probably been as many pre game injuries as much the on field ones we get to witness. The cricketing world has been extra cautious when it comes to injuries these days following Phil Hughes tragic death in 2014.
Even umpires these days have been seen donning a helmet to protect themselves from the ball. Cricketers have also worn extra protective gears to stay safe from any injuries. The ICC also introduced regulations last year to make helmet compulsory for batsmen and also making sure they adhere to the highest safety standards.
Talking about Ben Stokes, the 27-year-old was absolutely phenomenal with the ball. He got six wickets in the first Test including the priceless one of Virat Kohli that sealed the game for England. However, due to hearing in the court regarding his pub brawl last year, Stokes is all set to miss the second Test at Lords. Chris Woakes has been named in the 13 man squad for England in his absence.
