'Enjoy your daal, roti' - Twitter trolls Marnus Labuschagne for getting run-out on duck in Karachi Test

Marnus Labuschagne has bagged a nine-ball duck in the ongoing second Test between Pakistan and Australia in Karachi. His early departure was nothing short of a bonus for the home team as he got run-out in Australia’s first innings. Notably, Labuschagne is the top-ranked Test batter currently and played a 90-run knock in the preceding game in Rawalpindi. As the Day 1 track looked favourable for batters, the 27-year-old would have wanted to post a substantial score.
Unfortunately for the visitors, the right-handed batter couldn’t even open his account. He tried taking a suicidal single on the last ball off the 21st over. He subsequently paid the price as Australia lost two wickets inside three overs. It was a full-length delivery from the left-arm spinner and Labuschagne pushed the ball to mid-off.

While he ran off from a quick single, Sajid Khan hit the bull’s eye and brought curtains to Labuschagne’s short stay. While the Pakistan fielders looked ecstatic, Labuschagne walked back dejected. His fault also earned a lot of criticism on social media. After all, he could have made his bat talk on the Day 1 surface. Not to forget, he averages over 55 in Test cricket and the same speaks volumes of his prowess and consistency.

Earlier in the match, the coin landed in Australia’s favour and skipper Pat Cummins had no hesitation in batting first. The side got off to a brilliant start as openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja added 82 runs for the first wicket before the former fell prey to Faheem Ashraf for 36. Khawaja, however, continued his impressive run in whites and slammed a brilliant half-century.
Meanwhile, it must be noted that the ongoing three-match series holds great significance. It marks Australia’s first assignment on Pakistan soil since 1998. The first match in Rawalpindi ended in a dull draw as only 14 wickets fall across five days. As ICC rated the track below average, the Karachi track is expected to provide more assistance to the bowlers.
Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterati reacted to Marnus Labuschagne’s early departure:

No. 1 test batter in ICC rankings, Marnus Labuschagne, gone for a duck while trying to steal a single. That Daal-Roti didn't work out well for him.
This is just the 2nd time he's gone for a duck. 1st duck was also against PAK and that too on his debut inning in 2018#PAKvAUS— Rushil (@rushilthefirst) March 12, 2022
