The Kings XI Punjab are languishing at the bottom of the points table but their allrounder Marcus Stoinis has been one big positive for them this season. Stoinis is the only KXIP overseas player who has shown signs of consistency this season with both bat and the ball.

Recently, the Aussie all-rounder quoted that he is relishing this opportunity to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the tournament has helped him emerge as a better cricketer. “Personally, it’s a great opportunity for me to be here. And I’m relishing every opportunity I’m getting,”

He said that the players are put in crunch situations where they have to perform else they will lose their place in the side. “I think from being put in these sort of situations, you’re forced to adapt or you get kicked out pretty quickly,” quoted Marcus Stoinis.

Stoinis further added that the IPL comes up with new tests in every match which is very challenging. As a player, he is enjoying this opportunity. “I’m enjoying every opportunity because you’ve got to adapt to succeed at this game at a high level. So my game has changed a little bit. Also just being tested mentally every game; every situation is a good test. I think the key is consistent development and just improving all time and it feels like it’s getting there,” he added.

He also mentioned the skipper has been very supportive and has shown faith in him. “I’ve got full backing from the skipper. He’s thrown me the ball a lot, he’s put me in prime positions with the bat. So really, you want to deliver for them and do the right thing,” he said further.

Speaking on the points table and the way KXIP have lost the plot these season, Stoinis said that the team has worked really hard but unfortunately has missed the trick this season. “We’ve worked so hard as a team these last five weeks as every other team has but we’ve been through some stuff. This was an opportunity that’s been missed, I think,” he conceded.
