Young Hampshire leggie Mason Crane has already made a name for himself in the English domestic circuit. He is being tipped as the next big thing in spin bowling in England. He made his T20I debut against South Africa recently in the first game of the 3-match T20I series. It was a decent start for the 20-year old where he returned with figures of 0/24 in his quota of four overs. Albeit he did not get the wickets, he managed to impress his skipper Eoin Morgan.

Morgan, after the game, showered praises on the youngster. As per the quotes in cricket.com.au, Morgan noted that the management is aware of the skill sets that Mason Crane possesses. All he needs to do is to translate the good domestic form to the international level now. He believes the real challenge will beckon when the opposition takes an attack to his bowling.

“We know he has the potential and skill level, he has proved that at county level. It is about reigniting that form at international level and having the mindset to stay in the moment. It worked today and obviously there are very good signs. His skills are good, we know that, it is delivering them against (players like) De Villiers, who is one of the best of our generation – delivering against him is a task especially when he is coming after you,” quoted Morgan.

“The challenge for him now is if people counter him, how he comes back from it? But they are really good signs for a player coming in,” he added further.

AB de Villiers impressed with the leggie

It was not only the English skipper who was impressed with the way Mason Crane bowled. The opposition skipper, AB de Villiers, also looked highly impressed with the youngster. He commended the way he bowled with heart and rigour.

“I picked his deliveries but he did pretty well for a youngster. He must have been under pressure playing in a packed stadium against our best players. He has definitely got some skill and it is nice to see some of the youngsters like that coming through,” quoted AB de Villiers.
