The England limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan acknowledged Paul Stirling’s talent after his team Kerala Kings defeated Punjabi Legends in the final of the T10 Cricket League at the Sharjah cricket stadium. Punjabi Legends scored 120 in their allotted 10 overs. The duo of Stirling and Morgan managed to put on 113 runs in 41 balls as Kerala chased down 121 in eight overs.

Morgan believes that Stirling’s talent has not been showcased to the cricketing world because of the lack of exposure to Ireland cricket. They have played along for Ireland and during their time at Middlesex. In the T10 tournament, Stirling amassed 181 runs in five matches, at an average of 90.50 and a strike-rate of 197.

He also scored a century in a One-Day International (ODI) against Afghanistan for Ireland at the same ground four days before the T10 League started. “I’ve played a lot with Paul, more so at Middlesex than anywhere else, and I have watched him come through,” Morgan said. “He is a hugely talented player, and I am really pleased for him that he has performed on a stage like this that is broadcast all around the world.”

The T10 tournament was filled with glorious big hitting that suits Stirling’s style of batting. During the final, Morgan scored 63 off 21 deliveries and reached his 50 from 14 balls in the process. His quickfire innings included a moment of sheer brilliance when he smashed a ball on top of the grandstand roof measuring 113 meters.

Hasan Ali the Punjabi Legends bowled was so impressed with Morgan that he asked for his bat after the game ended. Paul Stirling’s partnership with Morgan ensured that the Kerala Kings win the tournament, Stirling remained unbeaten on 52 off just 23 deliveries with five sixes and three fours.

“I watched Eoin bat a lot when I was growing up, and he was always kind of an idol of mine and I wanted to emulate him, and go over and play for Middlesex,” Stirling said. “For the last number of years it has been great to bat with him, and we seem to put on a few good partnerships together, especially in the recent years, so it was nice to get another one of those today.”

“It is good fun. He is a nice, relaxed captain. There aren’t too many team meetings, not too many warm-ups. It is all individual – if you want to do it, you do it, and if you don’t, you don’t have to. “It creates that relaxed environment that allows players to go out and perform at their best,” Stirling admires Morgan and the duo seems to get along well with each other.
