Eoin Morgan to feature in Ten Cricket League in Sharjah
Ten Cricket League will commence from October 3 subject to the approval for ICC.
Eoin Morgan, the skipper of England in limited overs team, is all set to feature in Ten Cricket League which will be held in Sharjah. He will join the likes of Shahid Afridi, Chris Gayle, Virender Sehwag and Kumar Sangakkara who have already made up their minds to participate in the unique tournament. The competition is expected to be approved by International Cricket Council (ICC) in the upcoming week as the fans will surely enjoy another entertaining tournament in the shorter format.
The league will be sanctioned by Emirates Cricket Board and will be played in Sharjah from December 21 to 24 later this year. Ten Cricket League will be launched on October 3 soon after the approval from ICC. Former Pakistan skipper and the chairman of selectors Inzamam-ul-Haq will also attend as the league’s mentor. Though it remains to be seen if the Indian board will allow the star players of India to feature in this tournament.
More England players to join
The president of the league Shaji-Ul-Mulk was delighted with Morgan joining and expected that it will get the green signal in the next 3-4 days. He also confirmed that more England cricketers will join the league.
“Eoin is one of the superstars in T20 cricket and he’s the England skipper in T20s and ODIs, and we’re really honoured to have him on board. We have spoken to Jason Roy and Alex Hales and they’re just waiting for the formal approval from the ICC,” he said.
He also cleared that the list of the players participating in the league is not finalised but around 70 top internationals from around the world including those from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will feature. The event is strongly supported by Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cricket boards. Those nations will send one team each – Bangla Tigers and Colombo Lions in the six-team league.
“It’s wonderful. The fact that the Bangladesh and Sri Lankan Cricket Boards are sending their own teams are beyond our original expectations of how strong the league will be,” an elated Shaji added.
