He made history in July by leading England to their first-ever crown in the 50-over World Cup following an ultra-thriller of a final at the iconic venue of Lord’s. And last week, Irish-born Eoin Morgan returned to Finchley Cricket Club, London, with the World Cup trophy in his hands as part of his mission to get new boys and girls learn about the game.
England backed up their World Cup triumph with a Test victory over Ireland and a drawn Ashes at home. This year has gone well for England, especially in the limited-over formats in which the Three Lions have made great strides in recent times.
The 33-year-old left-handed batsman gave GiveMeSport an exclusive interview at the place where his career in cricket had taken off. Morgan, who has scored over 9,000 runs and belted a splendid century against Afghanistan at the World Cup, was asked a number of rapid-fire questions during the interview about his England team-mates and he came up with some clever and witty replies.
For instance, when Morgan was asked who is the batsman who he likes to bat with in the middle, he took the name of Joe Root, England’s Test skipper.
Morgan was then asked whether fierce fast bowler Jofra Archer is the scariest bowler in the nets. To this, he said yes and also added that he doesn’t face the West Indian-born pacer in the nets.
Morgan names worst footballer in England team
Morgan was then asked a tricky question and it was about the worst footballer on the England team. The limited-over captain decided to play it safe, saying, “This is very controversial because everyone loves their football.” He then added that Tom Curran is the worst of them and if Sam, his all-rounder cricketer brother is in the team, then it is the latter.
“If I was Sam I wouldn’t know whether to wear two right or two left shoes,” he said. And when saying who’s the best footballer on the England team, Morgan said it is Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler. “They’re very good and it’s evident, in a bang average game of football they’re better than anybody else.”
