Eoin Morgan has completely transformed England’s fortunes in One-Day Internationals and T20 Internationals. Despite being the pioneers of the game, the Brits had never managed to become a force to reckon with in the white-ball format before Morgan took over. England were in shambles after their 2015 World Cup debacle when a defeat to Bangladesh saw them crashing out of the event.
Fast forward four years and England are flying in the limited-overs format. They are currently the top-ranked ODI side in the world. Led by the fearless Morgan, the likes of Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, Alex Hales, Jonny Bairstow and others have made England the most feared side in the world. At the end of 2018, they had won 51 of their 77 ODIs since the 2015 World Cup and were the first and only team to win more than 50 games. During this period, they beat the likes of Australia, New Zealand and India to rise to the top of the ICC rankings.
Within a year of the humiliating exit from the 2015 World Cup, Morgan had led England to the final of the World T20. In the following year, they had made it to the semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy where they had lost against eventual winners Pakistan. Since 2015, England have amassed totals of over 350 twelve times, including 481-6 against Australia last summer. Recently, they had amassed 419 against Windies.
Morgan, who recently became the first England player to score 6,000 ODI runs, has been one of the architects of England’s rise. Well, the England skipper recently gave the fans an opportunity to know more about him. Morgan was recently interviewed by ESPNcricinfo where he was asked 25 questions ranging from his favourite Irish meal, the worst singer in the side, the sportsman he’d have loved to have met, and more.
Best league in the world:
One of the most interesting questions was to pick the best league in the world. Unlike most of his compatriots, Morgan has been a globetrotter and has plied his trade in almost all the major leagues of the world. However, he came up with a surprising answer when asked to pick the best league in the world.
The England star snubbed the likes of Indian Premier League and Big Bash League to give his vote to T10 League, which was launched and is owned by T10 Sports Management. The ICC had sanctioned the league last year.
Another interesting question was when he was asked to reveal the name of an opposition player he would like to have in his side. In reply, Morgan named former Australian speedster Brett Lee.
