Eoin Morgan still unsure about Stokes' participation in the Ashes

Ben Stokes’ brawl with a person outside a nightclub in Bristol and later on his removal from the team has left everyone wandering for an answer to this question- Will the highly rated all-rounder feature in the Ashes? Amidst seeking opinions from the key men in England, ODI skipper Eoin Morgan was also bombed with the same question. Because as a matter of fact, even Morgan doesn’t know whether Stokes will feature in the Ashes or not.

The 31-year-old after concluding the English summer with an ODI series win over Windies will feature in the newly announced T10 competition to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) later this year. Along with him, many retired legends like Virender Sehwag, Kumar Sangakkara and Shahid Afridi will be playing in this mega event. But when asked about the Ashes which will get underway in Brisbane, Morgan was seen worried because he doesn’t know the fate of perhaps the best all-rounder in the current era.

“There is still no clarification on Stokes, so I am not sure he is going or not. I think touring Australia is always tough. They are always a very good team in home conditions and it’s going to be a tough couple of months for the boys,” said the man from Dublin, as per reports in Gulf News Pakistan.

“Ashes is a bigger challenge when it is away from home. Given wherever it is, away from home, normally the home advantage is a big thing. Certainly when you go away from home and you play there (in Australia) it is a huge opportunity for guys to go and make a big impact on the Ashes away from home. There are some beautiful wickets there to bat on so hopefully, our guys can come up with good performance,” he further added.

Morgan also spoke on how the Men in Green arrived as the underdogs and departed with the glamorous ICC Champions Trophy. “One of the things is that we look back at the Champions Trophy and see where we fell short. One of the huge positives from the Pakistan’s aspect of things is that they got to bowl reverse swing in both the semi-final and final against us and against India. We could not find an answer to it. Huge credit to the Pakistan team for going on to win the Champions Trophy,” the owner of 11 ODI hundreds said.
