The ECB has announced its 15 man England squad which will tour India next month for the World T20 2016. Eoin Morgan will lead the team in an attempt to reclaim the title they won in 2010. Seamer Stuart Broad and all-rounder Chris Woakes have been left out but Steven Finn has been selected, despite suffering from a side strain.

Head coach Bayliss said that Woakes was “very unlucky” to miss out. “With the World Cup being in India, we’ve decided to take three spinners on that trip. He’s disappointed, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. If it was maybe somewhere else in the world, he could have maybe been one of the lucky ones. But I’m sure he’ll continue to work hard, and he’s certainly still part of our plans going forward.”

Kevin Pietersen, who has been in terrific form for the Melbourne Stars in the KFC Big Bash League has been left out despite several calls for his inclusion from various cricketers.

The certainty of his inclusion was quashed by skipper Morgan on Monday through a tweet and confirmed today when the England and Wales Cricket Board announced the 15-man squad

England has named one uncapped player Liam Dawson in their squad. However, Bayliss, admits he has not seen the Hampshire player play before.

“Not a real lot,” Bayliss said when asked about how much he knows of Dawson. “I haven’t actually seen him play a game. He came to a practice when we were out in the UAE, and he was there with the Lions.”

Dawson earns this selection after he impressed for the Lions in their recent series against Pakistan A and will join the South Africa tour party this week. The 25-year-old said he was surprised when the ECB’s national selector, James Whitaker, informed him of his call-up.

Former Sri Lanka batsman Mahela Jayawardene will be part of the coaching team for the first 10 days of the tournament, and former England T20 captain Paul Collingwood will work with the team for the duration.

Andrew Strauss, director of England cricket, said: “Mahela and Paul proved very popular additions to the coaching team when they spent time with England in the United Arab Emirates earlier this winter and I’m delighted that they are both able to help our T20 side.

“Their international experience, previous success at World T20 tournaments and, particularly in Mahela’s case, knowledge of conditions make them ideal resources to tap into.”

England’s first match is against the West Indies on 16 March. They also face South Africa and Sri Lanka in Group One, as well as a first-round qualifier from Scotland, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Hong Kong.

England squad: Eoin Morgan (c), Alex Hales, Jason Roy, Joe Root, Jos Buttler, James Vince, Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, Chris Jordan, Adil Rashid, David Willey, Steven Finn, Reece Topley, Sam Billings, Liam Dawson
