Every country hopes their wicketkeeper can turn out to be like MS Dhoni: Sanju Samson
Samson, who smashed 74 off 32 balls against CSK, is looking forward for a great IPL season this year
Ever since Sanju Samson’s stellar performance has stolen the show against Chennai Super Kings, he has been the talk of the town. His 74 off 32 balls got too dominant on bowlers of the Yellow Army, and Rajasthan Royals earned a victory by 16 runs.
Also, since the time MS Dhoni has announced his retirement from international cricket, it has opened the door for many young talents. Samson is also one of those wicket-keeping batsmen and feels that great competition around him will only make him better.
Samson is aspiring to get hold of that role, but filling in MSD’s shoes would be a great challenge as well as responsibility. In the recent chat, the young Rajasthan Royals star stated that everyone in the country would be aspiring to get that place, but he will try his best to have the honour. Also, the fierce competition over the place is making him better.
“Every country hopes their wicketkeeper can somehow turn out to be like Dhoni. In India, we have some really good wicketkeeper-batsmen. There is healthy competition both in the India side and domestically. Whoever comes in knows what a massive responsibility it is. (The choices) is a good headache for the team to have. For me, it’s a good position to be in because the competition forces you to improve,” said Samson in an interview with Hindustan Times.
The IPL standard is high: Sanju Samson
Samson, who smashed 74 off 32 balls, was also stunning behind the stumps by successfully making quick stumpings and two brilliant catch to his credit. He is looking forward to a great IPL season, which can guarantee him a place in the national side. He made his T20 debut against Zimbabwe in the year 2015 but could only play on three more international outings.
“It’s a massive T20 tournament with quality bowlers in every team, most of whom are regular international players. I want to score runs in every tournament I play. The IPL standard is high, and a good season will be a great boost. I have been with the Indian team, and it was a great experience. I would, for sure like to be there again, but right now, I am not thinking too far ahead,” concluded Samson.
