'Every cricketer goes through this phase where he is unable to score' - Wasim Jaffer backs struggling Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli has had a tough time so far in the ongoing home limited-overs series against the West Indies as he could only manage 26 runs from three ODIs including a duck. The stage was set for Kohli to finish off things in style during the first T20I on Wednesday but that was not to be as he walked back to the dugout with just 17 runs to his name and his poor form continued despite having scored two half-centuries in the away One Day series against South Africa last month.

Meanwhile, former India Test opener Wasim Jaffer has backed the Delhi cricketer despite going through a rough patch. The Ranji Trophy winner has urged the batting megastar to show some patience as things are not going his way despite him trying his level best and at the same time, also mentioned that once the ex-skipper breaks the barrier, he would score runs consistently as he used to do in the past.

“I am sure he is working as hard behind the scenes as he has been doing all these years, and with the same intensity. But, every cricketer goes through this phase where he is unable to score despite trying his best”, said Wasim Jaffer while speaking to ESPNcricinfo.

“Virat Kohli needs to show a little bit of patience. Once he breaks that barrier, I am sure we will see consistent scores from him again,” he added.

The Indian bowlers restricted the West Indies to a manageable total of 157/7 from their 20 overs and skipper Rohit Sharma along with his opening partner Ishan Kishan had laid a solid foundation for the hosts with a 64-run stand. When Virat Kohli had come out to bat, it appeared as if he would succeed in taking the Men In Blue over the line as he scored 17 runs off 12 deliveries that included a boundary.

On the third delivery of the 13th over bowled by Fabian Allen, Kohli came out of his crease with the aim of depositing the spinner into the stands after he had bowled a full delivery. Nonetheless, the ball was not at all timed well and went straight into the hands of Kieron Pollard who was stationed in the deep.
