'Every time I see him, he introduces something new' - Sachin Tendulkar lauds 'fast learner' Mohammed Siraj

Owing to his unmatched legacy, getting praised by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar is in itself an achievement. Whenever he goes on to speak highly of a cricketer, that individual more often than not, ends up excelling.

From the likes of Hardik Pandya to Suryakumar Yadav, several players who were backed by the “god of cricket” went on to establish themselves in the highest level of the game. The former Indian batter has now gone on to speak very highly of the pacer Mohammed Siraj. While calling him a quick learner, Tendulkar appreciated the pacer’s intent and energy.

Tendulkar said that it didn’t seem like the 27-year-old was new to Test cricket, as ever since he made his red-ball debut against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21, he has been a force to reckon with.

In the 10 Tests in which he has played so far, the fast bowler has picked 33 wickets at an average of 27.7. This includes two four-fers, as well as a fifer. While speaking about his debut series, the former Mumbai batter praised his skills.

“When he played last year in Australia, when he made his debut in Melbourne, it never appeared like he was playing his first match. That was the maturity he showed. He builds up his spells so beautifully and there on, he has not looked back. Every time I see him, there is something new that he introduces,” Tendulkar told the sports journalist Boria Majumdar on the show ‘Backstage with Boria’.

“There is spring in his legs and that is what I like to see. His run-up… you can see he is full of energy. And he is one of those bowlers… when you look at him, you cannot figure out whether it’s the first or the last over of the day. He is coming at you all the time. He is a proper fast bowler and his body language is so positive. That is what I like. He is a fast learner,” he added.
