Ex-Pakistani player Tauseef Ahmed wants India-Bangladesh match investigated by the ICC
Former Pakistani off-spinner Tauseef Ahmed has called for the ICC to investigate the India v Bangladesh match in the World T20 2016. India has defeated Bangladesh by just 1 run in the last over, where 3 wickets fell on the last three balls of the match.
The 57-year-old former cricketer said that he could see no plausible reason, why Bangladesh lost 3 wickets on the last three balls, after hitting 2 balls of that over for four. He told a Pakistani news channel, “The way the match ended it just does not feel right to me. I think it needs to be investigated by the authorities including the ICC.”
India made 146/7 batting first on a slow pitch at the M. Chinnaswamy stadium at Bengaluru, thanks to some good scores from Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli. Bangladesh looked good with Tamim Iqbal giving them a good start and Sabbir Rahman and Shakib Al Hasan laying the platform for a Bangla win.
But after the loss of Soumya Sarkar who made 21 and a brilliant 19th over by Jasprit Bumrah, Bangladesh needed 11 runs to win off the last over which was bowled by Hardik Pandya and Mushfiqur Rahim hit 2 fours off two balls which brought the equation to 2 runs off three balls, when Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah had a brain freeze and got out playing the glory shot.
On the last ball, MS Dhoni ran out the last batsman in order to win the match by a run. “Bangladesh is now not an inexperienced side. They had experienced players at the crease. I don’t understand how they could not first opt to tie the match and try for a big hit,” said Tauseef.
Tauseef who coaches the Pakistan A side and also coached the Pakistan Super League champions Islamabad United said, “I don’t know what to say. Best if the ICC looks into the match and holds an inquiry. Look everyone knows things do happen nowadays in cricket matches so nothing wrong in looking into the match.”
