Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Virat Kohli has expressed his excitement for the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which gets underway on March 26. Fans will see the talismanic batter in a different role this season as he stepped down as captain following the conclusion of the last season. However, the 33-year-old seems still determined to make his bat talk and contribute towards the team’s success.
Notably, Kohli had been RCB’s full-time captain since the 2013 season and now, the reins have been passed onto Faf du Plessis, who was bought for INR 7 crore in the mega auction. This means Kohli can play this season without the burden of leadership on his shoulders. Hence, he would be raring to play match-winning knocks. The same was evident in his latest post.
Taking to Twitter, Kohli shared a picture with RCB’s kit bag. “IPL around the corner and the excitement is in the air,” he added. It must be noted that Kohli is the only player to remain associated with just one franchise since the inaugural edition of the competition in 2008.

Renewed energy because I am off a lot of responsibilities and duties: Virat Kohli
“Wow. 15 years, it’s quite unbelievable that the IPL has come this far. Renewed energy because I am off a lot of responsibilities and duties. Life is in a very good place, we have a child now, we have a family. It’s about watching my child grow and doing what I love that is playing cricket,” said Kohli on a video posted on YouTube channel of RCB.
Meanwhile, RCB will kick-start their campaign against Mayank Agarwal’s Punjab Kings on March 27 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. This year, the Bengaluru-based team will be without the services of AB de Villiers, who retired from all formats of the game last year. However, besides Kohli and Du Plessis, RCB have several other potent names like Glenn Maxwell and Josh Hazlewood, who are the proven stars of the T20 format.
