It was all going on expected lines in the IPL 2019 auction until this name, Prabhsimran Singh popped up. He sparked an intense bidding war between the three teams Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and the Kings XI Punjab.

They were ready to go all in to sign the youngster. Ultimately, it was the team up in the North, Kings XI who bagged his services for INR 4.80 crores. Prabhsimran is a completely unknown commodity for most people and the fans were surprised to see him rake in the big bucks.

Here are a few facts about Prabhsimran Singh that you need to know:

1. Born in Patiala and plays for Punjab

This youngster was born in Patiala. He represents Punjab U19 team and is also the skipper of the side. Prabhsimran is just 18 years old and has constantly been among the runs. He was also a part of the India U19 squad for the U19 Asia Cup earlier this year.

2. Vented out his frustration with a double century

Prabhsimran Singh was ignored by the junior national selectors for the U19 team. Hence, he vented out his frustration by scoring a strokeful 298 against Amritsar in the semi-final of the recently concluded Punjab U23 Inter-district cricket tournament.

The wicketkeeper-batsman only took 301 balls to score these runs and hit 29 fours and 13 sixes. He batted for almost 10 hours in this innings and got out while trying to go for the glory shot.

3. Idolises Virender Sehwag

Prabhsimran is a great admirer of former Indian opener Virender Sehwag. He plays aggressive cricket just like the former opener and enjoys taking the attack onto the bowlers. He not only wishes to represent India in the near future but also wants to create a long career at the top level.

4. Managed to stun Kiran More

Apart from being an aggressive batsman, Singh is also a very talented wicketkeeper. He managed to catch the attention of former Indian cricketer and chairman of selectors Kiran More when he attended a keeping camp at the NCA in Bangalore. Only five U19 cricketers were selected for this camp from across the country.

His interest to keep wickets kicked off after watching Australian great and one of the best to have ever donned the gloves, Adam Gilchrist.

5. Comes from a cricketing family

Prabhsimran’s partner when he was tonking the bowlers all over (during the 298) was Anmolpreet Singh who is his cousin brother. The duo added 239 runs for the third wicket in the game. Anmolpreet is two years older and was the one who helped him get into the game initially.
