Pranav Dhanawade made headlines after becoming the first batsman to score 1,000 runs in an innings of an officially recorded match. He grabbed the limelight with a marathon 1009* knock for his school KC Gandhi against Arya Gurukul in Bhandari Cup inter-school tournament organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).
The wicketkeeper batsman bettered the best-ever individual score made on a single day when he went past Prithvi Shaw’s 546, as he was unbeaten on 652 at the end of day 1. Two other cricketers with promise have also scored big runs in Mumbai maidan cricket. Sarfaraz Khan and Arman Jaffer – both part of India’s current Under-19 squad, made 439 in 2009 and 498 in 2010.
