Failure to cope with the new ball accounted for Pakistan’s loss: Fakhar Zaman
Pakistan has gone from being champions to being in shambles within the space of six months
Pakistan’s poor performance and the subsequent series defeat against New Zealand has come down heavily on the team. Coming on the back of some fine performances, especially with the Champions Trophy win, the team looked promising of good fortunes but failed to deliver when it mattered. Pakistan has gone from being champions to being in shambles within the space of six months.
With the Green Shirts not being able to perform at its best at New Zealand, Pakistan’s opening batsman Fakhar Zaman believes that the team’s struggle with the new ball is a key setback during the tour.
Talking to the media in Wellington on Thursday, ahead of the fifth and final One Day International on Friday, the 27-year-old batsman said Pakistan would try their best to end the series at 4-1.
“We are working very hard as a team and we will try our best to win the last ODI and end the series at 4-1. We are not doing too well with the new ball in New Zealand conditions. We have to get better in the starting 10 overs of the match. We too have many good things for us on this tour. We are focusing on the positives.” he said while admitting the team’s struggles against the new ball.

The Black Caps eye whitewash against Pakistan
With the series long since gone, the final fixture doesn’t nearly have the appeal a decider would, but both teams still have a stake in the outcome of this game. Although a dead-rubber, the Kiwis will be looking for a clean sweep to extend their winning streak across formats to 12, while Pakistan is desperate for a final shot at redemption going into the T20I series.
The Men in Green will look to avoid the whitewash against the Kiwis at Basin Reserve in Wellington.
