Faiz Fazal eyes India comeback after successful Irani Cup
Faiz Fazal made his ODI debut when India toured Zimbabwe back in 2016
Faiz Fazal has been a prolific run-scorer for Vidarbha at the domestic level. With nearly 7000 runs in first-class cricket, the Maharashtra-born cricketer has been a fulcrum for the team. The left-handed batsman has had an impressive run in the recently concluded Irani Cup. He captained the side to a thumping victory against the Rest of India (ROI). Meanwhile, he also has shown prime form with the willow. The cricketer spoke to the media and hailed his team for the stupendous performance.
“Winning the Irani is like icing on the cake. Ranji win was a very special one as we had to go through those leagues and then the knock-out phase. But the Irani Cup is the biggest match of the year with the Ranji winners pitted against the best players of the country. Beating them convincingly is a very special moment for us. We are very happy with our performance this season,” Fazal was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
Fazal’s dream of playing for India
Fazal made his ODI debut when India toured Zimbabwe back in 2016 for an ODI and T20I series. Meanwhile, he also became the first Indian player in 16 years to make his debut in the thirties. However, he hasn’t got an opportunity thereafter. The cricketer also highlighted his urge to represent the national team as a reason for continuing playing domestic cricket.
“Need to speak something about myself also. I think self-promotion is a need of the hour. I have made over a thousand runs this season and I am much fitter than ever. I am hopeful of playing Test matches for India. Want to represent India again. And that’s why I play cricket. The day I think I cannot play for my country, I will quit,” the left-handed batsman added.
