Rewards and accolades continued to pour in for Pakistani players after they defeated India in the recently concluded Champions Trophy. It was the swashbuckling left-handed opener Fakhar Zaman yet again who received a reward of 20 lakhs from Bilal Malik, who is the son of Malik Riaz, the owner of Bahria Town, Karachi.
Fakhar Zaman was responsible for single-handedly changed the fortunes of Pakistan in Champions Trophy. Only the ardent followers of Pakistan Super League had an idea about the devastation he can create with the blade of his. During the start of the tournament, the well established yet struggling for form, Ahmed Shehzad was favored over the talent of Zaman.
Pakistan lost the first match of the tournament against their rivals India comprehensively. Mickey Arthur was bold enough to try Zaman in place of Shehzad and since then the left-hander never looked back as he performed in every outing of the Champions Trophy.
From an unknown to a hero, Journey of Zaman
Starting off against South Africa, his 30-odd was responsible for steering his side home by DLS method. He brought up his maiden half-century in the match against Sri Lanka. He followed it up with yet another half-century in the semi-finals against England which knocked the host out of the competition. Fakhar Zaman saved the best for the last as he smashed his maiden ODI century against India in all-important finals of the Champions Trophy.
Zaman claimed that he hoped to carry on from his great start in international cricket and live up to the expectations of Pakistan. He also said that his performances would bring great joy and happiness to the people of Pakistan and that he would never let his nation down thereby ensuring that he is no one-hit wonder for Pakistan cricket. Zaman will now have to prove himself in international cricket and show that his performances in the ICC Champions Trophy weren’t a flash in the pan.
