4. Barmy Army – Group
Team Supporting: England
Barmy Army, now a limited company, is a name given to the English Cricket team fans that would travel to Australia for the Ashes series in groups and would cheer for their team. Founded by three friends who travelled to cheer England in 1994/95 Australian Ashes series, Barmy Army got their name from Australian media because they would never stop cheering for their team even when they performed badly or suffered a shambolic defeat (which they did that series).
Barmy Army now is a much more organized community of English cricket fans bringing its unique carnivals, fancy dressed fans and more importantly their songs to every England game. The British pound was much stronger in the 1990s, so this army would travel to every country their team toured and gained popularity and even special mentions by the TV Commentators. With fame came controversies too, they were accused to defame English cricket fans because of hooliganism and booing against their rivals. But they recovered from these controversies and now put an extra effort to provide the most comfortable environment for English fans to watch cricket.
