The Rajasthan Royals didn’t have the best of outings in the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League. The team, captained by Steve Smith, failed to qualify for the playoffs despite starting the tournament with two thumping wins at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. However, after the initial wins, their campaign fell apart and they ended in the bottom half of the points table.
But one player, who shone for them was all-rounder Ben Stokes. He didn’t play the first few games as he was serving the quarantine period. Out of 14 matches, he could only play eight matches and he made an impact, especially with the bat in hand. In those games, the veteran smashed 285 runs at an average and strike-rate of 40.71 and 142.50 respectively.

Stokes also smashed a ton against the Mumbai Indians, scoring 107 runs off 60 balls with 14 fours and three massive sixes into the stands. The 29-year-old’s unbeaten ton guided the Royals to a stupendous victory at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
In the meantime, one of Mumbai Indians’ hardcore fans asked RR to trade Ben Stokes to the Rohit Sharma-led unit. The supporter took to Twitter and wrote, “Trade ben stokes to MI @mipaltan.”
Thereafter, the Royals came up with a hilarious reply where they clearly denied the fan’s request to leave Stokes.

Going into the 2021 edition of the IPL, the Royals took the tough call of releasing Smith, who couldn’t live up to the expectations, both as a batsman and captain last time. RR have appointed Sanju Samson as their skipper. Ever since they won the 2008 IPL under Shane Warne’s leadership, RR haven’t had the best of times and they will be looking to turn their fortunes around.
As far as MI are concerned, they won the IPL title for the fifth time in the last eight years. Rohit’s team beat the Delhi Capitals in the final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. After Sharma replaced Ricky Ponting as the team’s captain, they have been unstoppable, to say the least.
