Fan demands Harmanpreet Kaur's statue outside ICC headquarters, apex body responds
ICC responds with a doctored image showing an image of Harmanpreet's batting stance in front of the headquarters.
Harmanpreet Kaur has further enhanced his reputation as one of the best batsmen in women’s cricket with a scintillating display in the just concluded women’s T20 challenge. The India T20I skipper led her side Supernovas from the very front to lead them to the title. She starred in the final as Supernovas beat Velocity in a thriller to clinch the trophy. Harmanpreet scored 51, helping Supernovas register a four-wicket win in the final.
Chasing 122, Supernovas were reeling at 64 for 5. Velocity was pretty much in the driver’s seat and had one hand on the trophy. However, Harmanpreet was not ready to throw in the towel yet and played a captain’s knock to bail her team out of trouble. She scored a 34-ball fifty to all but take her team over the line. Harmanpreet was on 4 off 11 balls, with the side needing 58 off 35 when she hit her first boundary.
From there on there was no looking back and took the Velocity bowlers to the cleaners. She, however, returned to the pavilion when her side was in a precarious position. With 7 needed from 5, she holed out to deep cover to depart for 51. Her knock contained four boundaries and three maximums. Radha Yadav then scored 10 from 4 balls to ensure Harmanpreet’s knock does not go in vain as Supernovas crossed the line on the very last ball of the match.
Statue for Harmanpreet
The latest knock has only enhanced Harmanpreet’s ever-growing popularity in the country. The right-handed batsman, who had scored a scintillating century in the World T20 last year, is one of the most popular women cricketers in this country. And when she led Supernovas to the thrilling title, one of her fans demanded a statue for her outside the ICC headquarters. Highlighting Harmanpreet’s contribution to raising women’s game, the fan wrote
“Harmanpreet Kaur single-handedly made women’s cricket relevant. Statue needed outside ICC headquarters.”
To the fan’s surprise, ICC’s Twitter handle was quick to reply. And it was a hilarious reply as the ICC posted a doctored image showing an image of Harmanpreet’s batting stance in front of the headquarters.
