While England’s first innings in the 1st Ashes Test came to a close, an interesting even transcribed at the Gabba as a young Australian cricket fan proposed to his girlfriend after lunch at the Gabba Pool deck. The event happened exactly when the Australian openers Cameron Bancroft and David Warner walked out to the crease after the Australian bowlers bowled the visitors out for 302.
There have been several criticisms in the past for the Gabba pool deck, with people talking about how the pool is just an unnecessary element in a cricket stadium. However, Australian fans Michael Langridge and Tori Roebuck had a different perspective on the issue when Michael dropped on his knee to propose to his girlfriend.
Commentators enjoy the moment
Former Australian captain Mark Taylor, who was commentating, said: “I assume that means she said yes, with all the kissing and what have you that’s going on.”
While Michael was sporting a swimsuit in the bright yellow and green colour that Australia wears, his girlfriend sported an Australian jersey. The happiness was evident on her face as she accepted his proposal and the couple embraced each other. The couple started a new chapter in their life, as the debutant Cameron Bancroft walked out to play for Australian for the very first time.

England‘s second-day disaster
England began day 2 with only four wickets down as Moeen Ali and Dawid Malan walked out to bat. Malan was the first man to be dismissed on Day 2 when he could not control the short-ball from Mitchell Starc only for Shaun Marsh to grab an easy catch. The next five batsmen for the visitors could only muster 56 runs, as England were dismissed for 302.
A resilient bowling performance post lunch ensured that Australia did not get off to the ideal start, losing Bancroft for five runs. Usman Khawaja and David Warner followed suit as Australia struggled at 59/3 before slumping to 76/4. However, a decent partnership between skipper Steve Smith and Shaun Marsh ensured that the rest of the day went unscathed as Australia trail England by 137 runs.
