A fan reminds Telangana govt of unfulfilled promises made to Mithali Raj
Describing Mithali as the pride of Hyderabad and Telangana State, the Chief Minister said: “You have exhibited a wonderful talent."
A Twitter user reminded Telangana Minister that Indian Women’s team skipper Mithali Raj hadn’t received a plot of land she was promised more than a decade ago, by the erstwhile government of late YS Rajasekhara Reddy. After having reached the finals of the Women’s World Cup in 2005, she was promised 500 square yards of land.
The leading run-getter in Women’s ODIs Mithali was gutted as the government didn’t keep the promise. Despite her parents putting in the effort and following up with the officials, the government disappointed with their inaction. It became frustrating to the point that Mithali asked her parents to stop running for the land.
The question
A Twitter user questioned the Minister of Municipal Administration K Taraka Rama Rao based on a report that featured in TOI.
This caught the attention of the minister who was quick to respond that he was unaware of any such promise made by the previous government. He assured to look into details regarding the subject.
He stood up to his words eventually and what followed some hours later after his tweet brought a huge smile to everyone’s face. He announced that the Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrashekar Rao announced a cash prize of ₹1 crore and a plot of land to Mithali Raj. Adding to that, a reward of ₹25 lakhs was also announced for her coach. Praises sprung in from all the fans who lauded the announcement. They were really happy with the government finally applauding Mithali Raj’s efforts and showered them with praise.
Recently, the Telangana government had also honoured tennis player Sania Mirza and Badminton player PV Sindhu for garnering success for the nation in their respective sports. It’s always delightful to watch a sportsperson being acknowledged for proving their potential at the international stage and the Telangana government has taken a laudable step in doing the same.
CM’s statement
“You played wonderfully at the World Cup. We thought you would surely to win the final too. Unfortunately, we lost by a slender margin. But yet your team performed well and the whole nation watched your performance. I also watched the match. You played very well in this tournament. You have set a record by scoring the highest number of runs,” the Chief Minister said.
Describing Mithali as the pride of Hyderabad and Telangana State, the Chief Minister said: “You have exhibited a wonderful talent. You should win several victories in future. On behalf of the people of Telangana state and my own behalf, I congratulate you. The government will stand by you.”
