In only his second match as captain, Rohit Sharma slammed an unprecedented third double century in ODIs to help India fight back from a deflating mauling in the first ODI. In reply to India’s 392/4 on a placid but initially tricky pitch, the visitors could only muster a mere 251 made possible by Angelo Mathew’s obstinacy as he hit his second ODI ton, both coming in losing causes against India in India.

Having won only their 5th ODI this year, Sri Lanka have had a record torrid year in ODIs and had a chance to wrap a rejuvenating series win after showing some fight in the Tests. However, Rohit ensured this was not to be as the hosts head to the deciding 3rd ODI with the upper hand and series tied 1-1. Apart from Rohit’s masterclass, young Shreyas Iyer‘s impressive 88 and Mathew’s fighting effort, there was another notable moment that took place at Mohali on Wednesday.

During Sri Lanka’s chase, a fan from the crowd came running in on the ground, breaking all security measure and ran directly towards former Indian captain MS Dhoni who was keeping the wickets. The man, who was clearly a passionate fan of the Indian superstar nearing 10000 runs in ODIs, then touched his feet, despite Dhoni stopping him from doing so, before a security personnel took him out of the ground.

Here is the video of the same:

This isn’t the first time that a fan raced his way on to the ground just to touch Dhoni’s feet. Earlier there have been instances where individuals have somehow managed to breach past the security arrangements to either greet of touch the wicketkeeper-batsman’s feet. In domestic cricket, Indian Premier League as well as international cricket.

Dhoni was at his best in the 1st ODI where had scored a resilient 87-ball 65 to save India the blushes at 29/7 and took them to a respectable score. Though his effort couldn’t save the game for the team, it did show that the old warhorse still has a lot to offer to this team.
