Fans break TV sets after India loses to Pakistan in Champions Trophy final
Supporters of team India took to the streets at Paldi in Ahmedabad after India lost the match to Pakistan, and broke a TV set in anger.
We’ve all seen Pakistani fans livid with their team after Pakistan lose to India, especially when it comes to ICC tournaments. In as many as 13 occasions, India have triumphed over their arch-rivals in ICC events. However, that all changed on Sunday as Pakistan thrashed the Men in Blue to lift the Champions Trophy for the first time in their history.
Following India’s 180-run defeat at the hands of Pakistan, fans in India were out on the streets expressing their utter disappointment. The defending champions were expected to blow the no.7 ranked team away in the all-important final, but Pakistan turned the tables on India. There was a role reversal of sorts with the fans as well, as Indian fans were seen smashing television sets.

A look back at India’s blotched final
India were certainly the favourites going into the final, but Sarfraz Ahmed’s boys played out of their skin. The Men in Blue seemed off colour as well – the bowlers were wayward, save Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s premier off-spinner who had a marvellous Test season, bowled defensively, without the slightest intent of picking up wickets.
Fakhar Zaman led the Pakistan batting from the front with a blistering century. He was ably assisted by the likes of Azhar Ali, Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez. Pakistan posted a massive total of 338, but still had to topple a batting-heavy Indian side.
Left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir was at it straight away; he brought back memories of his vicious spell in the Asia Cup against India. Amir got rid of Rohit in the very first over with an LBW, then followed it up by dismissing skipper Virat Kohli in the second. By the time Shikhar Dhawan fell prey to Mohammad Amir, the game had pretty much slipped out of India’s hands.
Hardik Pandya provided some resistance down the order and looked good to tee off towards a century. However, a horrible mix-up between Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja resulted in the former walking back to the dressing room, steaming and screaming as he did so. It was mere formalities for Pakistan to skittle India’s tail.
India now head to the Caribbean to play a five-match ODI series and a lone T20 against the Windies.
