Indian skipper Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the finest cricketers around the world across all formats of the game. His personal milestones have led him to bear a tag of modern-day legend and his captaincy numbers are also great. However, a lack of ICC trophy in his cabinet stands to be the major point due to which he is targeted by many around the world.
It has to be noted that Virat Kohli’s win percentage in Tests stands to be 59.01 which is better than the next best MS Dhoni who had 45. Talking about ODIs, he has a win percentage of 70.43 as a skipper. However, as soon as an ICC event gets disturbed, major criticism starts falling in and fans start questioning his captaincy.
When India lost the WC Final to New Zealand in Southampton, many started calling for split captaincy or removing Kohli from the captaincy role. In the same light, English player Peter Trego feels that supporters should cut some captaincy debate and start accepting how lucky the Indian team is to have him as a player and captain.
I think Virat Kohli does a pretty good job reckons Trego
“Kohli’s personal performances have been extraordinary. The Indian team’s performance generally has been excellent. I think he does a brilliant job under such pressure. No doubt that captaining the Indian cricket team is probably the most pressurized job in world cricket. Kohli does a pretty good job, I think the supporters need to cut him some slack and remind themselves that how lucky India are to have Virat Kohli,” Trego told HT in an interview ahead of the India-England series that commences on August 04.
Whenever Virat Kohli fails to deliver, he is being compared to former Indian skipper MS Dhoni who went on to bring all the ICC trophies for India. Though Kohli has extraordinary numbers under his belt, the fact remains intact that India is struggling to get hold of an ICC trophy since 2013. Many times, India has collapsed in the crucial fixture of ICC events.
