Fans question the selection decision after Mayank Agarwal scored another hundred for India A
Agarwal was ignored by the national selectors for the Test squad in England.
As the Indian senior selection committee was expected to declare the Test squad for the last two matches in England a lot of names were in the fray. Though most of the batsmen got amongst the runs by the third Test and the bowlers picked wickets, there was expected to a change in the squad. Three India A players who had delivered big in the recent past had most bets on them. It was speculated that two of Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari would make it to the team.
After the conclusion of the third Test in Trent Bridge, it was confirmed that Shaw and Vihari will join the squad. While the 18-year-old is an opener and replacement for Vijay, who failed miserably at Edgbaston and Lord’s, Vihari was added to the squad as a backup for skipper Virat Kohli. Amidst all that, a certain segment of the fans was not quite pleased with the judgement as Agarwal missed out on a spot yet again.
The 27-year-old who would’ve certainly been disappointed didn’t concede that and scored a century in the next outing for India A against India B in Bangalore. Agarwal helped his team India B register their second straight win and rise to the top of the points table. This is his first significant knock in the series and in fact, his third hundred in the last five List A matches.
As far as his first-class performance is concerned, he scored three ducks, a fifty and a double hundred in the last four FC matches.
“I think I am very happy with the progress. I am very happy with the way I am batting. I am in a great mindspace and I want to continue batting and scoring runs. Scoring 2000 runs in a domestic season is not a joke. I am very, very happy with the way I am batting,” he had recently said talking about his form.
