Fans slam ICC for using Virat Kohli’s snap as their cover picture on Twitter
Some went on to say that ICC stands for Indian Cricket Council as they expressed their displeasure.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) is once again facing the heat from certain fans for showing their love for India skipper Virat Kohli. During the World Cup, the Twitter handle of the governing body was slammed for the preferential treatment it dished out to Kohli. The ICC had posted a photo on Twitter before the start of the World Cup to honour the India star who is one of the finest batsmen if not the finest of this generation.
In that famous painting, Kohli was seated on a throne, wearing a cloak with the ICC logo and a bejeweled crown. Holding the bat in one hand and a ball in the other with the helmet at his left foot, Kohli’s graphic image showed the aura of a king. The ICC had rightly captioned the picture King Kohli.
A couple of months after that incident, the ICC risked facing the wrath of some fans again after using a Virat Kohli picture as their Twitter cover picture. There is little denying the fact that Kohli is the most marketable cricketer on the planet and the ICC is perhaps trying to capitalize on it. At the same time, one cannot also undermine Kohli’s stupendous displays with the bat on the field.
The world number one ODI and Test batsman is showing remarkable and unprecedented consistency with the bat. On Sunday, he scored his 42nd ODI century, achieving the feat in the second ODI against Windies. Kohli’s ton helped India beat the Windies by 59 runs and take an unassailable 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The century also helped him achieve some more milestones.
Kohli is now only seven centuries short of Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI tons. The India skipper also surpassed Sourav Ganguly to become the second-highest run-scorer for India in ODIs. Overall, he is eighth in the list which is a remarkable feat given that he is only 30. Kohli also broke Rohit Sharma’s record of fastest to 2,000 ODI runs against a single opposition.
Fans unimpressed with ICC
But as soon as the ICC used Virat Kohli’s picture as their cover picture, a few fans took a shot at them. Some went on to say that ICC stands for Indian Cricket Council as they expressed their displeasure.
