Auckland Aces will lock horns with Wellington Firebirds in the 10th match of the Plunket Shield at the Eden Park Outer Oval in Auckland on November 15. These teams have played three games each so far in the tournament, where Auckland are yet to win any match and are at the bottom of the table, while Wellington have won two and are placed in the second position.
Auckland Aces had squared off against Canterbury Kings in their last encounter, where Canterbury Kings won the toss and elected to field. Auckland could never get going on a fast-paced track and were bowled out for just 217. With a beautiful century from Henry Nicholls, Canterbury declared the innings at 413. Auckland did a better job this time around with half-centuries from a couple of players but still could only score 256. Canterbury had a trivial target of 60 in front of them, which they easily chased and won the game by eight wickets.
Wellington Firebirds had played against Northern Districts in their last game, where Northern Knights won the toss and elected to field. With the middle order taking responsibility and scoring the bulk of the runs, Wellington did a good in posting 270 runs. Northern Districts just could not keep it going, with all their batters failing to score and could only muster 191. Although not as good as the first inning, Wellington still managed to score a fighting 224. Keeping their first innings in mind, Northern Districts were in trouble with such a target, but surprisingly, they did a good job, and the match ended in a draw.
