Adelaide Strikers will face Brisbane Heat in the final of the Women’s Big Bash League 2023 on Saturday (December 2) at the Adelaide Oval. The Heat have reached the final for the first time since 2019 when they lost against the Strikers. The Strikers are the defending champions and defeated Sydney Sixers by 10 runs last season in the final.
Strikers defeated the Hobart Hurricanes in their last league stage game by 77 runs after posting a total of 164 runs for the loss of three wickets. Laura Wolvaardt played a crucial role with the bat and scored 73 runs off 65 deliveries. The Hurricanes were bundled out for just 87 runs, and no batter managed to cross the 20-run mark. Tahlia McGrath, the skipper, was the pick of the bowlers and took three wickets for just eight runs.
Heat faced the Perth Scorchers in the Challenger game and won by 67 runs. Opting to bat after winning the toss, Brisbane Heat produced an impressive total of 197 runs for the loss of five wickets against Perth Scorchers. Grace Harris spearheaded with a solid start, scoring 54 runs off 33 deliveries, well-supported by Amelia Kerr's contribution of 31 runs off 23 balls. Charli Knott's brisk 32 runs off 14 deliveries, including three boundaries and two sixes, added to the formidable total. Alana King stood out among the Scorchers' bowlers, claiming three wickets for 30 runs in four overs. In response, Scorchers struggled, losing their first three wickets for 44 runs, and despite Nat Sciver-Brunt's efforts, they only managed 130 runs for the loss of eight wickets, conceding a 67-run defeat. Georgia Voll's excellent four-wicket haul for 19 runs in four overs and Jess Jonassen's two wickets for 25 runs earned Brisbane Heat the victory, with Grace Harris earning the Player of the Match award for her batting performance.
