Australia and New Zealand will play the second ODI of the three-match ODI series on Thursday (September 8) at Cazaly's Stadium, Cairns. Australia won the first game by two wickets after chasing the target of 233 runs in 45 overs. However, their chase was not very smooth. Australian bowlers did manage to restrict New Zealand to 232 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. None of the Kiwi batters managed to score a half-century in the game. Australian openers David Warner and Aaron Finch struggled right from the first delivery of the innings. Trent Boult bowled a maiden first-over during the Australian innings. In his second over, Boult dismissed Finch for five runs. Boult dismissed Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne in his next two overs. Matt Henry, who opened the bowling attack for New Zealand along with Trent Boult, dismissed Warner and Marcus Stoinis. Australia were reduced to 44 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, and it looked like the former ODI champion were doomed.
However, Alex Carey and Cameron Green came to the rescue of the Australian team. The duo added 158 runs for the sixth wicket. Lockie Ferguson did break this partnership in the 40th over as he dismissed Carey. However, Green went on to finish the match for Australia.
