T20 World Cup 2024 will witness the Australians take to the field for the first time in this campaign. Mitchell Marsh and his side will hope to make it a hat-trick of ICC titles as they take on Oman at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. Oman have already played at this venue as they went down in a heroic effort against the Namibians.

Australia (AUS) will come out all guns blazing and will look to outplay the Oman side with the bat and ball. One of the concerns will be the form of Glenn Maxwell, who hasn’t fired with the bat during the IPL. Mitchell Starc, fresh off his exploits for KKR, will want to carry on the same form as will star batter Travis Head.

Oman (OMN) had to endure a heartbreak when they nearly pulled off an amazing defence of their rather small total on the board. Their loss to Namibia in the Super Over is already the best game in the early stages of the tournament. Aqib Ilyas will want his batters to perform better, as he has a very decent-looking bowling attack to put the opposition under pressure.

Pitch Report

Historically, Barbados is known to be a paradise for pace bowlers, and the batters enjoy it too if they get their eye in. With the conditions expected to be cloudy, there will be a good amount of swing and seam for the bowlers. It may not be a high-scoring encounter once again, but chasing could be the most popular choice for the captain calling the toss right.

Player Picks

8.5
C

Travis Head AUS | BAT

The left-handed batter is the man for big occasions and big tournaments. Travis Head has been devastating form with the bat in recent times as seen during the recent IPL season and will be a huge threat for the Oman bowlers.

5.5
C

Mehran Khan OMN | ALL

The left-arm medium pacer was the difference maker with the ball as he picked 3 wickets for 7 runs from his 3 overs which also included a maiden over. Mehran may not have pace with the ball but his guile and accuracy makes him a very dangerous bowler.

8.5

Mitchell Starc AUS | BOWL

Considered one of the best bowlers of this era, Mitchell Starc will be lethal with the new-ball as he showed with his terrific performance for KKR. Oman batters will have to guard his toe-crushing yorkers and swing that has troubled the best in the business.

8.5

Khalid Kail OMN | BAT

Oman batter Khalid Kail was the only player who put up a fight with the bat in the game against Namibia. His 34 runs were crucial to help his side post 109 runs on the board. The right-handed batter will further hope that he can keep his form going and be the main batter for his team against the fiery Aussie side.

9

Adam Zampa AUS | BOWL

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been one of the most important bowlers in the white ball format. The 32-year-old is a threat with his flight and ability to outfox the batter with his variations.

8.5

Aqib Ilyas OMN | ALL

Oman skipper Aqib Ilyas failed to trouble the scorers with the bat but his bowling was one of the biggest reasons for helping his team tie the game. Aqib Ilyas bowled 4 overs and picked the wicket of Niko Davin and just gave away 17 runs to cap off an impressive day with the ball.

9

Glenn Maxwell

AUS | ALL

The veteran Aussie all-rounder has struggled for runs and his inconsistency with the bat saw him lose his place in the RCB playing XI. Australia will want Maxwell to find his form and do well once again if they have to win their 3rd consecutive ICC title.

9

KashyapKumar Prajapati

OMN | BAT

Mitchell Starc would have seen how Prapati was troubled by Ruben Trumpelmann with his left-arm pace in the first game. The 28-year-old has one of Oman's best batters but sadly his recent outings haven't been able to show that.
