Chattogram Challengers will take on the Sylhet Strikers in the opening game of the Bangladesh Premier League 2023 on Friday (January 6) at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. The Challengers finished in the third position last season. They won the eliminator game against the Khulna Tigers but failed to outperform the Comilla Victorians in the second qualifier. They have named Shuvagata Hom as the captain for this season and have added some renowned international players to the squad. The team looks balanced on paper and has some experienced as well as young Bangladeshi players.

Sylhet Strikers won a single game out of ten matches in the previous season and finished in the last place in the points table. Hence, the squad has been revamped, and former Bangladeshi skipper Mashrafe Mortaza has been roped in to lead the side this year. Mortaza is the most experienced and successful captain in the league, having won the league thrice as captain with three different teams. Dutch international Colin Ackermann, Zimbabwean all-rounder Ryan Burl, and former Pakistani speedster Mohammad Amir are all part of the Strikers this season.
