Canterbury Kings will lock horns with Central Stags in the 14th match of the Super Smash 2023 at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch on January 5. Canterbury Kings squared off against Otago Volts in their last match, where Otago Volts won the toss and elected to bat. Otago started aggressively even though they lost two early wickets. A good partnership for the third wicket paved the way for a good innings, where they scored briskly and went on to post a strong total of 171 runs on the board. Kings also lost an early wicket in the chase, but they counter-attacked and increased their flow of scoring runs. With a half-century from Henry Nicholls, Canterbury went to chase the total and won by four wickets. 

Central Stags had played against Canterbury Kings in their last encounter where Central Stags won the toss and elected to field. Kings did not particularly have a great start, losing two wickets early in the game. Then, to solidify the innings, the scoring rate dipped, but the pair of Cole McConchie and Michael Rippon slammed the bowlers all around the park, amassing a huge total of 185 runs. Stags had a similar story with losing early wickets and the middle order solidifying; however, they lacked the finishing and ended up losing the game by 33 runs.
