India and Thailand will play the first semi-final of the Women’s Asia Cup 2022 on Thursday (October 13) at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet. This will be India’s eighth semi-final appearance since the start of the tournament. India won the first six editions of the Asia Cup and lost the final last time against Bangladesh. Bangladesh failed to qualify for the semi-final after their last game ended in a no result due to rain which paved the way for Thailand to make it to this stage of the tournament. Thailand have qualified for the semi-final stage for the first time since making their debut in the tournament during the 2012 edition. They finished in the fifth position in the last two editions.
India won five out of the six matches and finished in first place in the points table. Thailand, on the other hand, lost their first two matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. They went on to win the next three matches including one against the two-time runner-up Pakistan. This will be the second game between both teams against each other in this edition. India defeated Thailand by a huge margin of nine wickets during the group stage. Thailand managed to post only 37 runs while batting first and India chased down this total in just six overs.
