Team India's women (IND-W) will look to overcome their 2024 ICC Women's T20 World Cup disappointment and target a fresh start against New Zealand women (NZ-W) in the first ODI game at the historic Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 24, Thursday. The newly-crowned T20 World Cup champions outplayed Team India in their opening clash of the group stage in Dubai and will be considering themselves as a red-hot favorite heading into the forthcoming three matches of the ODI series.

After a group stage exit in the World Cup, Harmanpreet Kaur and her women will be aiming to perform well in front of their home crowd. Notably, Team India has already qualified for the 2025 ICC Women's ODI World Cup as a host. On the flip side, White Ferns are still fighting for their direct spot, currently placed in the sixth position. After clinching the 2024 T20 World Cup, the Kiwis will be full of confidence and will be aiming to carry that momentum in the ODIs.

From Team India's camp, Richa Ghosh will miss the series due to her 12th standard board exams. Asha Sobhana is unavailable due to an injury, while Pooja Vastrakar, who sustained an injury during the competition in UAE, has been rested. Among new faces, Tejal Hasabnis, Saima Thakor, and Priya Mishra got their maiden call-ups. On the flip side, New Zealand fast bowler Rosemary Mair and off-spinner Leigh Kasperek are the only omissions from the outfit that recently became the T20 World Cup champions. Wicketkeeper-batter Polly Inglis has earned her maiden international call-up.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad sets to favor batters as compared to the bowlers. The batters can pile up big runs on the board and the dew can make the things more easy in the second half. Team winning the toss would be choosing to chase here.
