Tamil Nadu had played off against Chandigarh in their last encounter, where Chandigarh won the toss and elected to field. On a slow and turning track, Tamil Nadu lost a wicket early but managed to have several good partnerships, one after the other, due to which they were able to reach a total of 161 runs. The pitch got slower in the second in the innings, increasing the problems for the batters. Batters failed to show intent during their stay at the crease, and so they were bowled out for 105 runs, losing the game by 56 runs.
