Middlesex will lock horns with Kent in the 72nd match of the Vitality Blast 2023 at the Lord’s in London on June 16. Middlesex have lost all their eight matches so far and are languishing in the bottom of the South Group. Kent, on the other hand, have won just two of their seven and are seventh in the rankings of the South Group.
Middlesex had squared off against Sussex in their last match, where Sussex won the toss and elected to bat. Choosing to bat, they were off to a very slow start, but after they lost two wickets, they started to speed things up a little. They had some brilliant partnerships in the middle overs and scored at a fantastic strike rate. Shadab Khan led the attack with his half-century and helped the team post a total of 181 runs on the board. In reply, Middlesex had lost a wicket early, but a brilliant second-wicket partnership had kept them in the chase. Captain Stephen Eskinazi led the way in the chase with his innings of 94 runs, but it went in vain as Sussex ultimately won the closely fought game by a close margin of just four runs.
Kent had played against Hampshire in their last encounter, where Kent won the toss and elected to field. Hampshire started horribly, as they had already lost two wickets within three overs, but a partnership worth 85 runs brought them back into the game. Ben McDermott and Joe Weatherley scored their fifties each and helped the team post a good target of 178 runs. Kent were off to a flyer with their first partnership, and the second one ultimately won them the game. They had lost just four wickets in the process and completed their chase easily in the last over of the inning. Kent won the match by six wickets.
