Manchester Originals Women (MNR-W) will take on London Spirit Women (LNS-W) in the sixth match of The Hundred Women 2023 at Old Trafford in Manchester on August 5. Both teams will be looking to kickstart their campaign after their opening matches were abandoned due to rain.
Manchester Originals finished in the sixth spot on the table in the last season. They managed to win just two out of six matches. The skipper from last season, Kate Cross, has signed with Northern Superchargers for this season. They have roped in Laura Wolvaardt and Amanda-Jade Wellington, who were the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker of the 2022 season, respectively. Their inclusion in the squad makes the Originals one of the top contenders to win the 2023 season. The batting line-up will have Deandra Dottin, the leading run scorer from the Originals in the last season. Emma Lamb scored 136 runs, and the wicketkeeper batter will be there again. In the bowling department, Amanda-Jade Wellington will get support from Deandra Dottin, Sophie Ecclestone and Emma Lamb. Ecclestone was the leading wicket-taker last season, picking eight wickets in six matches.
London Spirit Women had a poor outing last season as they finished in the seventh spot in the points table with just two wins out of six matches. England cricketer Heather Knight will be part of the London Spirit squad this year. Amelia Kerr was brilliant with both bat and ball; she was the only good thing for the London Spirit last season. Captain Charlie Dean and Danielle Gibson are also reliable batters and will be among the key batters for this side. Coming to the bowling line-up, the London Spirit squad will have Kiwi all-rounder Amelia Kerr. She picked nine wickets in six matches last year. Richa Ghosh, Danielle Gibson and Grace Scrivens will be among the top key bowlers of the London Spirit.
