New Zealand (NZ) will be up against Australia (AUS) in the 1st Test of the Australia tour of New Zealand at Basin Reserve in Wellington from February 29. Both these teams have been in incredible form in the longest format of the game, winning four of their last five games. It would be an exciting contest between the two sides.
New Zealand squared off against South Africa in their last game, where South Africa had won the toss and, on a difficult track, did a decent job of scoring 242 in the first innings. They did surprise with the ball as they did not let the Kiwis settle and could only score 211 with a deficit of 31 runs in the first innings. David Bedingham put up a great show with the bat as he smashed a ton to give New Zealand a handsome target of 267. Williamson, who could not do much for his team in the first innings, did a great job by smashing another century and taking his team over the line by seven wickets.
Australia had faced the West Indies in their last encounter, where the Windies did manage to surprise everyone as they fought in the game and put up a total of 311 runs on the board. Australia, in return, owing a captain’s knock to Pat Cummins, who scored a handy fifty, scored 289. The Windies could not do a great job with the bat again, as they were limited to just 193, setting up a target of 216 for the hosts. However, it was the fourth innings where the game turned around as Shamar Joseph, with a broken toe, rattled the Aussies, scalping as many as seven and securing the win for his team by just eight runs.
