South Africa will take on Pakistan in the second match of the Test series. This match will be played at Newlands in Cape Town. South Africa became the first side to qualify for the WTC finals after a tense two wicket win against Pakistan in Centurion. Three teams - Australia, India, and Sri Lanka - are in contention for the remaining spot to join South Africa at Lord's next June.
The opening match was nail-biting Test which ebbed and flowed towards both sides until the very end. South Africa started Day 4 requiring 121 runs and were in a comfortable position at 96 for 4. There was a mini collapse triggered by Mohammad Abbas which saw the hosts stumble to 99 for 8. But an unbeaten 51-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen helped the hosts get over the line. It was a dramatic test match to kickstart the series.
Mohammad Abbas, who picked up career-best figures of 6-54 was the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan in the second innings bowling consequite overs from one end. Saud Shakeel was the best batter for Pakistan in the game while Babar Azam got to his first Test 50 in the year. For South Africa Marco Jansen and Dane Paterson were the star with the ball while debutant Corbin Bosch put in an all-round performance. This promises to be another thrilling game and it should be an excellent start to the New Year Test.
